Four teens face heartbreak and celebrate in the rituals of an extraordinary senior year. \nIvete Lucas and Patrick Bresnan paint a detailed and astonishing portrait of Pahokee\, a rural village in the Everglades\, Florida. Very close-knit\, its inhabitants fight to face fragile financial situations and an uncertain future. Through a precise observational approach\, the film captures the daily life of this city restoring a rich palette of nuances. From sporting events to beauty contests at school\, filmmakers explore social and community rituals\, and how gender and identity are portrayed as new stories are created. Going well beyond the teaching of Wiseman\, which Lucas and Bresnan have perfectly integrated\, the film seems to bathe in the singular atmosphere of a song of Gil Scott Heron\, with lingering hints of rural blues tinged with urban echoes. A complex multi-faceted work that recalls both the raw social realism of the new American cinema and the neorealist style. Pahokee is the powerful portrait of a forgotten America\, absent from the current political discourse.

SUMMARY:Color Out of Space
DESCRIPTION:One Week Only! \nWhen an iridescent meteorite plummets from outer space and into the property and foundations of a remote New England estate\, a malignant force begins to insidiously permeate the lives of an unassuming family. The effects are gradual — time begins to dilate\, nature assumes an otherworldly hue — and all things bright and beautiful eventually mutate and corrupt under its influence. So proceeds this eerie adaptation of the short story by H.P. Lovecraft\, one of horror’s most haunting\, here presented by the enigmatic South African filmmaker Richard Stanley. \nThe patriarch of this doomed brood is none other than Nicolas Cage\, continuing his recent renaissance as a midnight-movie staple with an increasingly unhinged “Rage Cage” performance. The rest of the ensemble\, which includes Joely Richardson and Tommy Chong\, play effective foils to Cage’s delirium\, but the real star of the show is the alien entity itself. This all-consuming\, dispassionate menace manifests itself in a series of grotesque\, body-horror\, and psychedelic spectacles\, worthy of its ineffable literary origins.

SUMMARY:63 Up
DESCRIPTION:One Week Only! \nLed by Emmy nominated\, DGA and BAFTA® award-winning director Michael Apted throughout the decades\, this groundbreaking documentary anthology has now reached 63 Up\, gaining further illuminating insight into its premise of asking whether or not our adult lives are pre-determined by our earliest influences and the social class in which we are raised. An issue as relevant to our society now as when the series first appeared. The documentary film reveals more life-changing decisions\, more shocking announcements and joy and tears in equal measure. \nThe original Seven Up was broadcast as a one-off World in Action Special inspired by the founding editor Tim Hewat’s passionate interest in the Jesuit saying\, “Give me the child until he is seven\, and I will give you the man\,” and his anger at what he saw as the rigidity of social class in England. Seven Up featured the children talking about their hopes and dreams for the future. As members of the generation who would be running the country by the year 2000\, what did they think they would become? \nThe result was ground-breaking and the follow-up films every seven years have won an array of awards. \nDirector Michael Apted\, who moved to Hollywood in the late 70s to direct films including award-winning film Coal Miner’s Daughter\, The World Is Not Enough\, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Gorillas in the Mist\, has returned every seven years to chart the children’s progress through life. \nOver six decades\, the films have documented the group as they became adults and entered middle-age\, dealing with everything life has thrown at them in between. Now\, as the group reaches retirement age\, the film is back to discover what they are doing.

SUMMARY:In Fabric
DESCRIPTION:One Week Only! \nA lonely woman (Marianne Jean-Baptiste)\, recently separated from her husband\, visits a bewitching London department store in search of a dress that will transform her life. She’s fitted with a perfectly flattering\, artery-red gown—which\, in time\, will come to unleash a malevolent curse and unstoppable evil\, threatening everyone who comes into its path. \nFrom acclaimed horror director Peter Strickland (the singular auteur behind the sumptuous sadomasochistic romance The Duke of Burgundy and auditory gaillo-homage Berberian Sound Studio) comes a truly nightmarish film\, at turns frightening\, seductive\, and darkly humorous. Channeling voyeuristic fantasies of high fashion and bloodshed\, In Fabric is Strickland’s most twisted and brilliantly original vision yet.
