To combat the giant monsters\, a special type of weapon is devised: massive robots\, called Jaegers\, which are controlled simultaneously by two human pilots. \nBut in 2025\, even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat\, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes\, a washed-up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi). Together\, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting Armageddon. \nWith supporting turns from Idris Elba\, Charlie Day\, Ron Perlman\, and more\, Pacific Rim is a science fiction spectacle from the out-of-this-world visionary Guillermo del Toro. \nMeet the speaker: Qiushi Fu is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Central Florida. He received his Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering from Arizona State University in 2013. Dr. Fu’s research focuses on the neural control of movements with clinical applications targeting motor recovery with neurorehabilitation and assistive devices.
