SUMMARY:Attack of the Beast Creatures
DESCRIPTION:40th Anniversary! \nCelebrating 40-years of Enzian Theater\, each month we will highlight a classic film from 1985 to illustrate the lasting impact of the films of the era and the legacy of Central Florida’s only non-profit arthouse movie theater.  Thank you for being part of our 4-decade contribution to arts culture in Orlando. \nIn the wild\, weird world of 1980s horror\, few films scream “shot on weekends in the woods of Connecticut” quite like Attack of the Beast Creatures. This micro-budget gem follows a group of 1920s shipwreck survivors who wash up on an island crawling with tiny\, Zuni fetish doll monsters with a serious taste for human flesh. \nShot in 1983 but not released until 1985\, the film is fueled by outrageous gore\, a sublime synthesizer score\, and jaw-dropping puppet effects.  This is what happens when a mid-century creature feature collides with DIY surrealism\, and everyone wins. \nOriginally known as Hell Island\, Attack of the Beast Creatures returns to the big screen for the first time in decades\, featuring a restoration from the original 16mm camera negative that celebrates a relic of regional horror filmmaking\, and delivers undeniable proof that with enough fake blood and puppet monsters\, every movie can be a great movie.

SUMMARY:Plan 9 from Outer Space
DESCRIPTION:Hailed as the pinnacle of “so-bad-it’s-good” filmmaking\, Plan 9 from Outer Space is a midnight movie experience like no other. A cultural juggernaut\, “Plan 9” remains the defining legacy of the indefatigable Edward D. Wood Jr. and his merry band of Hollywood outcasts. \nA bizarre tale of extraterrestrials\, who enact a desperate attempt to stop humans from creating a doomsday weapon\, by resurrecting the dead in a sleepy California cemetery. Among the reanimated corpses are a cape-wearing ghoul (partially portrayed by the legendary Bela Lugosi\, in his final posthumous appearance)\, a zombified inspector (Swedish professional wrestler Tor Johnson) and sexy vampire (the iconic Maila “Vampira” Nurmi) \nWith its cardboard sets and hubcap flying saucers\, the film is technically flawed and narratively chaotic\, yet has endured for decades as a symbol of outsider filmmaking and the enduring passion of creators with more dreams than skills. Immortalized in Tim Burton’s classic “Ed Wood”\, its low-budget charm\, awkward dialogue\, and imaginative (if not always coherent) dialogue have made it a cornerstone of cult cinema and a veritable rite of passage amongst a certain breed of cinephile! \nFreaky Fridays ticket prices include a free popcorn and soda or lemonade for all attendees! Alcohol can be purchased at Eden Bar. Regular food service will not be available for Freaky Friday events. So\, come early\, and fuel up outside for the night ahead!

SUMMARY:Arrebato (Rapture)
DESCRIPTION:4K restoration! \nARREBATO’s dimension-shattering blend of heroin\, sex\, and Super-8 is the final word in cinemania. \nHorror movie director José (Eusebio Poncela\, Matador) is adrift in a sea of doubt and drugs. As his belated second feature nears completion\, his reclusive bubble is popped by two events: a sudden reappearance from an ex-girlfriend (Cecilia Roth\, All About My Mother) and a package from past acquaintance Pedro: a reel of Super-8 film\, an audiotape\, and a door key. From there\, the boundaries of time\, space\, and sexuality are erased as José is once more sucked into Pedro’s vampiric orbit. Together\, they attempt the ultimate hallucinogenic catharsis through a moebius strip of filming and being filmed. \nLong unavailable internationally\, Arrebato has since been rediscovered as a cult masterpiece — a queer-coded\, avant-garde horror tale often described as Spain’s answer to Videodrome or Eraserhead. Legendary director Pedro Almodóvar has cited it as a major influence\, and its reputation has continued to grow for those drawn to the darker\, drug-fueled edges of cinematic obsession. \nFreaky Fridays ticket prices include a free popcorn and soda or lemonade for all attendees! Alcohol can be purchased at Eden Bar. Regular food service will not be available for Freaky Friday events. So\, come early\, and fuel up outside for the night ahead!

SUMMARY:Shogun Assassin
DESCRIPTION:45th Anniversary! \nThe legendary midnight movie sensation that firmly embedded samurai mythology within American pop culture consciousness\, this English-dubbed reedit of the first two films in the classic Japanese chanbara series Lone Wolf and Cub is a giddily entertaining\, mesmerizingly gory classic of East-meets-West grindhouse mayhem. \nFollowing the murder of his wife at the hands of an evil shogun\, an avenging ronin (Tomisaburo Wakayama) roams the countryside with his young son—and the boy’s sword-shooting baby carriage—in tow\, dispatching ninja assassins with steely resolve in operatically stylized flurries of hallucinatory violence. With its pulsing synth soundtrack (cowritten by Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere & the Raiders) and delirious action set pieces—kinetically edited whirlwinds of flashing blades\, spurting blood\, and severed limbs—Shogun Assassin proved an instant cult favorite that has bubbled its way up from the underground to the mainstream thanks to its influence on artists ranging from the Wu-Tang Clan to Quentin Tarantino. \nFreaky Fridays ticket prices include a free popcorn and soda or lemonade for all attendees! Alcohol can be purchased at Eden Bar. Regular food service will not be available for Freaky Friday events. So\, come early\, and fuel up outside for the night ahead!

SUMMARY:The Wolf House
DESCRIPTION:Combining stop-motion\, painting\, and photography\, this exquisitely handcrafted animation tells the story of Maria\, a young woman who finds refuge in a house in the south of Chile after escaping from a sect of German religious fanatics. She is welcomed into the home by two pigs\, the only inhabitants of the place. Like in a dream\, the universe of the house reacts to Maria’s feelings. The animals transform slowly into humans and the house becomes a nightmarish world. \nInspired on the actual case of Colonia Dignidad\, “The Wolf House” masquerades as an animated fairy tale produced by the leader of the sect in order to indoctrinate its followers. It’s film of constant disorienting transformations and smothering claustrophobia\, showing the spirit of unsettling experimental animation found in the works of the Brothers Quay\, Walerian Borowczyk\, Jan Lenica\, and Jan Švankmajer is alive and well. \nFreaky Fridays ticket prices include a free popcorn and soda or lemonade for all attendees! Alcohol can be purchased at Eden Bar. Regular food service will not be available for Freaky Friday events. So\, come early\, and fuel up outside for the night ahead!

SUMMARY:Vampyros Lesbos
DESCRIPTION:Screening as part of “Reel Pride” at Enzian! \nThis June\, celebrate the power of queer representation through a collection of bold\, groundbreaking\, and deeply human films. From enduring classics to emerging voices\, REEL PRIDE showcases a rich tapestry of experiences that reflect the diversity\, resilience\, and creativity of the LGBTQIA+ community. Join Enzian for an unforgettable series of films\, designed to generate conversations and foster community through the lens of great storytelling. \nVampyros Lesbos: \nIncludes a special introduction by Nicole Richter\, PhD\, author of “Bisexual Erasure in ‘Lesbian Vampire’ Film Theory.” In partnership with Dyke Nite Orlando. \nIn a career that spanned 57 years and over 200 films\, the Vatican once called Spanish exploitation maverick Jesus ‘Jess” Franco “the most dangerous director in the world”.  This\, his retelling of the “Dracula’s Guest” story has gained a following over the decades via its erotic flights of surreal imagery\, psychedelic soundtrack\, and iconic performance by Franco muse Soledad Miranda as the Countess and has been often cited (and programmed along with Jean Rollin) as a controversial but still recognizable foundational work of early queer cinema. \nEwa Strömberg (She Killed in Ecstasy) stars as Linda\, a woman with recurring dreams about a woman seducing her. When Linda’s sent to an island off the coast of Istanbul\, she meets the very Countess of those dreams. After quickly falling under the woman’s spell\, Linda finds she’s not the only one with an obsession for the Countess. With a thin plot to roll with\, Franco creates dazzling scenes of arty softcore bliss infused with psycho-sexedelic tunes. \nFreaky Fridays ticket prices include a free popcorn and soda or lemonade for all attendees! SUMMARY:The Timekeepers of Eternity
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to your new favorite Stephen King adaptation. A found footage appropriation from filmmaker Aristotelis Maragkos\, The Timekeepers of Eternity was meticulously crafted by creating a new edit of King’s TV mini-series The Langoliers\, printing each frame to paper\, then animating it all into a brand new creature feature. \nBut there’s a method to the madness. In The Langoliers\, Mr. Toomey (played by an unhinged Bronson Pinchot) obsessively tears paper to overcome the traumatic events—and literal monsters—of his childhood. In “Timekeepers”\, the tears and creases of photocopied paper transform into a living collage where the filmmaker and protagonist slowly merge with a common goal: to make sense of the paper nightmare. \nFreaky Fridays ticket prices include a free popcorn and soda or lemonade for all attendees! Alcohol can be purchased at Eden Bar. Regular food service will not be available for Freaky Friday events. So\, come early\, and fuel up outside for the night ahead!

SUMMARY:The Short Films of David Lynch
DESCRIPTION:“Walk into a Dream”: The Films of David Lynch\n“Film exists because we can go and have experiences that would be pretty dangerous or strange for us in real life. We can go into a room and walk into a dream. If we didn’t want to upset anyone\, we would make films about sewing\, but even that could be dangerous.”  – David Lynch \nDavid Lynch’s art taps into a deep human fascination with the surreal and the psychological. His talent for transforming the everyday into something eerie\, for weaving emotion into his strange landscapes\, and for exposing the darker side of suburban life resonates universally\, connecting with audiences across cultures and generations in ways few filmmakers achieve. \nFrom teenagers to octogenarians\, Lynch’s fanbase spans generations. His loss will leave an irreplaceable gap in the world of cinema. We invite you to join us in celebrating the life\, legacy\, boundless imagination\, and singular voice of David Lynch. \nThe Short Films of David Lynch: \nEvery work of staggering genius career begins somewhere\, and David Lynch dipped his toes into the black pool of cinema at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with a pair of short films (Six Men Getting Sick and The Alphabet) before moving back to the West Coast to attend the American Film Institute.  From 1967 to 1974 Lynch worked exclusively in short format. \nThese works\, often experimental in nature\, showcase Lynch’s unique ability to evoke emotion and provoke thought in a condensed format. With a signature blend of abstract imagery\, disjointed narratives\, and eerie soundscapes\, Lynch’s short films delve into themes of identity\, fear\, and the subconscious. Unlike his more expansive feature films\, these shorts offer a glimpse into the raw\, unfiltered creativity that has defined Lynch’s career\, allowing audiences to experience his world in bite-sized yet profoundly impactful doses. \nIn continued celebration of the life and legacy of one of films greatest visionaries\, Freaky Fridays is proud to present the Short Films of David Lynch. \nSix Men Getting Sick\n1967\, USA\, 4 minutes\nSix cartoon figures vomit repeatedly. \nThe Alphabet\n1968\, USA\, 4 minutes\nThis experimental short film presents a sick woman’s nightmare involving living representations of the alphabet. \nThe Grandmother\n1970\, USA\, 34 minutes\nA boy plants a seed that grows into a grandmother in this experimental short film. \nThe Amputee: Version 1\n1974\, USA\, 5 minutes\nA double amputee attempts to write a letter while her nurse gets in the way. \nThe Amputee: Version 2\n1974\, USA\, 7 minutes\nA double amputee attempts to write a letter while her nurse gets in the way. \nPremonitions Following an Evil Deed\n1995\, USA\, 1 minute\nPolice discover a naked dead body.

SUMMARY:Ichi the Killer
DESCRIPTION:4K Restoration \nTakashi Miike’s ICHI THE KILLER has endured as one of the most influential pieces of genre filmmaking of the last two decades\, and now it returns in a stunning all-new 4k restoration approved by Miike himself. \nThis visceral\, bloody\, and often hilarious film follows Kakihara (Golden Globe winner Tadanobu Asano\, Shogun)\, a notoriously sadistic yakuza enforcer whose search for his boss’ killer brings him into the orbit of a demented costumed assassin known as Ichi (Nao Ōmori\, From Up on Poppy Hill). \nICHI THE KILLER has been released in several versions over the years. While Takeshi Miike’s original cut was 128 minutes long; the original US release was heavily edited to receive an R rating from the MPAA. SUMMARY:Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
DESCRIPTION:Featuring a live Zoom Q&A with Michael Rooker! \n4K Restoration! Freaky Fridays takeover! \nJohn McNaughton’s (WILD THINGS) infamous take on Henry Lee Lucas’ true crime story returns to theaters with a new 4K presentation that cements its reputation as one of the most harrowing\, original American films of all time. \nHenry (Michael Rooker\, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) is a psychopathic drifter who has coldly murdered a number of people for no particular reason and without any remorse. Leaving scores of bodies in his wake\, Henry makes his way to Chicago and settles into the rundown apartment of his drug-dealing former prison friend Otis (Tom Towles\, HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES). Also moving into the space is Otis’s younger sister Becky (Tracy Arnold)\, who is fleeing from her abusive husband. Unbeknownst to Becky\, Henry continues to commit a series of random killings along with Otis\, who has quickly developed a taste for murder… \nOriginally premiering at the Chicago International Film Festival in September 1986\, the film had a long and controversial path to distribution. Saddled with the disreputable “X” rating for violence in 1989\, the film was finally released unrated in January 1990. Along with Peter Greenaway’s The Cook\, the Thief\, His Wife & Her Lover and Pedro Almodóvar’s Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!\, McNaughton’s notorious film is often-cited as the inspiration for the Motion Picture Association’s creation of the NC-17 rating. \n  \nIn September programmers Tim Anderson and Paige Babbage let the Uncomfortable Brunch team take over Freaky Fridays for a screening of Harmony Korine’s Trash Humpers in 35mm!  Now Josh and Kat are returning the favor and the Freaky Fridays team are bringing you this special screening of one of their favorite controversial masterpieces. \n  \nAbout Michael Rooker: \n \nBorn on April 6\, 1955\, in Jasper\, Alabama\, into a family of eight children\, Rooker lived in a house with a dirt floor and no indoor plumbing. As a young child\, he and a cousin would scour the ground to find bottle caps from RC Colas in order to exchange them for free admission to the local movie theater. Six bottle caps\, he once recalled\, were enough to get him a ticket. Rooker’s parents divorced when he was 12\, and the following year his mother moved with the children to Chicago\, where they lived in what Rooker describes as a rough neighborhood. Rooker has credited his hardscrabble upbringing with fostering his determination and fight to succeed as an actor. In high school\, he worked as a lifeguard at Chicago’s North Avenue Beach\, winning Rookie Lifeguard of the Year and saving some 10 people in one of his summers at the job. \nEncouraged by an instructor at Wright Junior College in Chicago to audition for admission to the prestigious Goodman School of Drama (now the Theater School of DePaul University)\, Rooker debated for two years on whether to try out and finally applied and was accepted. He graduated in 1982 and worked in the theater for several years thereafter. He later professed his love for film acting because it gave actors the chance to improvise and create\, as opposed to the rehearsed and technical nature of stage performing. He once equated film acting with being a jazz musician in its possibilities for personalizing a role. \nHis breakthrough role was the title role in John McNaughton’s low-budget cult film Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer\, which is based on the life of serial murderer Henry Lee Lucas. The film was shot in 1986 but was not released until 1990 because of continuing debate over its rating. Rooker received critical acclaim and an Independent Spirit Award for best actor in 1991 for the film. Footage from the unreleased film sent to director John Sayles led to Rooker being cast as one of the main characters in the 1988 baseball film Eight Men Out\, which was based on the game-fixing scandal of the Chicago White Sox in the 1919 World Series. Rooker has recounted the story of winning the role of Charles “Chick” Gandil by going to the town where the film was shooting\, knowing that Sayles had seen the footage of his performance in Henry\, and finagling his way into an audition. Despite getting into a shouting match with the casting director\, he still won the role. The film was critically acclaimed and widely popular at the box office\, and Rooker credits it with bringing him more opportunities\, including roles in some of the highest-grossing films of the late 1980s and the 1990s: Mississippi Burning\, Sea of Love\, Days of Thunder\, JFK\, Cliffhanger\, and Tombstone. He also appeared in Kevin Smith’s 1995 cult indie film Mallrats. \nIn addition to his film work\, Rooker has appeared on a number of popular television shows\, including Burn Notice\, Criminal Minds\, Law and Order\, and the 2006 miniseries Thief. Despite his more than 100 film and television acting credits\, however\, Rooker did not become a widely recognized figure until he was cast as Merle Dixon\, a racist southern drug addict\, in AMC’s The Walking Dead series about the zombie apocalypse. Merle Dixon and his brother Daryl struck a chord among devoted Walking Dead fans. Rooker has said that people responded to the character and the show because provided them a sense of relief and the belief that they live in a safer world. In 2011\, Merle Dixon’s popularity led Rooker to be hired as a character voice to play Merle in the Call of the Dead video game\, which is part of the Call of Duty series of games and centers on a zombie-infested future. \nRooker’s name recognition exploded internationally when he was cast as Yondu Udonta\, the blue-skinned leader of a band of space pirates in the blockbuster 2014 superhero film Guardians of the Galaxy\, one of the major installments in the Marvel Comics Cinematic Universe. He reprised his role in 2017 in Guardians of the Galaxy\, Volume 2\, and his character’s sympathetic turn and sacrificial death earned Rooker wide praise. He has continued to be a popular choice for fantasy and science fiction films\, appearing in 2019’s Brightburn and 2021’s The Suicide Squad. He also continues to appear in television and video game voice roles.

SUMMARY:Trash Humpers
DESCRIPTION:Special 15th Anniversary — 35mm Screening! \nUncomfortable Brunch take-over! \nScuzz poet Harmony Korine (Spring Breakers\, AGGRO DR1FT) takes a dumpster dive into the freakiest fringes of weirdo America with this singular paragon of pop-art transgression. Shot on appropriately grimy VHS\, TRASH HUMPERS brings us a gang of elderly degenerates who film themselves in the backlots and alleyways of Nashville\, drinking heavily\, defiling garbage and anything else at hand\, and spreading destruction wherever they go. An unclassifiable work of post-cinema that plays like the most bizarrely unsettling home movie ever uncovered in a flea-market bargain bin\, TRASH HUMPERS is graced with the strange beauty and proudly outsider spirit that runs through all of Korine’s films. \nFreaky Fridays’ programmers Tim Anderson and Paige Babbage are out of town this month\, so they’ve handed the reins over to Joshua Martin and Kat Whitacre of Uncomfortable Brunch. Combined\, they are promising you one of the most legendary evenings of cinema this year! Complete the takeover in November\, when the Freaky Fridays team takes over Uncomfortable Brunch for a screening of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer!

SUMMARY:Video Diary of a Lost Girl
DESCRIPTION:Meet the Filmmaker: Writer/director Lindsay Denniberg will be in attendance for a Q&A! \nThe feature film debut from writer-director (and University of Central Florida grads) Lindsay Denniberg and co-writer Chris Shields\, VIDEO DIARY OF A LOST GIRL is a hypercolored dreamland that combines a love for genre film history with a gorgeous handmade aesthetic. Louise (Pris McEver) works in a video store. But she’s also a demon. A descendent of biblical demon-mother Lilith\, Louise fulfills her predestined obligation to have sex with a man—and then kill him—every full moon. When she meets Charlie (Shields)\, a reincarnated partner from her past\, Louise struggles to not do what she does best. Meticulously crafted with the use of repurposed art materials and green screen\, VIDEO DIARY is a valentine to the VHS aesthetic and an exploration of personal themes via the guise of body horror. The movie was influenced by everything from LIQUID SKY to ROCKULA\, from HEATHERS to DEAD RINGERS\, resulting in an absurdist\, experimental horror-comedy that was years ahead of its time.

DESCRIPTION:The Films of the Gay Girls Riding Club \nSpearheaded by filmmaker Ray Harrison\, the Gay Girls Riding Club (GGRC) took California’s 1960s underground gay scene by storm with drag spoofs of classic Hollywood films. These pioneering DIY takes on films like WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE and ALL ABOUT EVE provide an essential snapshot of mid-century drag culture that would feel right at home with the dreamy work of Mike and George Kuchar. AGFA\, in partnership with the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project\, is thrilled to present this overlooked chapter of queer cinema—preserved from the only known 16mm film elements in existence. \nWhat Really Happened to Baby Jane? \n1963\, USA\, 31 minutes\, Directed by Ray Harrison\, Unrated \nCreated by the GGRC less than one year after the massive box office success of Bette Davis’ and Joan Crawford’s histrionic horror flick Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? One might ask the question can you out camp a camp classic!  And the answer is a resounding yes! \nAll About Alice \n1972\, USA\, 68 minutes\, Directed by Ray Harrison\, Unrated \nThe queens are back\, and this time the GGRC is setting their spicy-flair on sending up Joesph L. SUMMARY:Terminal USA
DESCRIPTION:A force of nature since 1985\, underground icon Jon Moritsugu—in partnership with wife Amy Davis—creates candy-colored genre riots that feel like NC-17 sitcoms from outer space. Moritsugu’s fearless\, protopunk deconstructions function as a giant middle finger to everything from racism to gender expectations—while also exploring themes of Asian-American identity. \nHolly (Jenny Woo)\, Marvin (writer/director Jon Moritsugu)\, and Katzumi (Moritsugu again) are average Asian-American teenage siblings with not-so-average predilections for backstabbing\, kinky sex\, and drug-fueled freakouts. Neglected by their parents\, the kids turn to outside “help” (including the scene-stealing Amy Davis\, Moritsugu’s wife and longtime collaborator) in order to escape their bored existence. Naturally\, this leads to gore killings\, sex tapes\, and the most hilarious phone conversations ever captured on 16mm film. \nFunded with a $350\,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts with the intention of being distributed on PBS; Once the film was completed\, virtually no stations would dare to air it! \nA candy-colored hellscape that feels like an episode of STRANGERS WITH CANDY that was filmed by Dario Argento during a three-day acid bender\, Jon Moritsugu’s TERMINAL USA is a crucial piece of 1990s alternative cinema—smart\, shocking\, and one of the most deranged films to ever be funded by American taxpayers. This is the film HEATHERS wished it could be.

SUMMARY:Cannibal Campout
DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate the Shot-on-Video era with a special VHS screening! \nJoin us for this special screening presented in conjunction with Terror Vision who will be introducing the film and hosting a table in the lobby with exclusive merchandise! \nThe late 1980s were the golden age for video rental stores\, as well as for homemade movies. Shot-on-video titles shared shelf space with Hollywood’s latest and greatest from coast to coast\, and in the midst of it all came standout Cannibal Campout from directors Tom Fisher and Jon McBride (Feeders)\, a film that pushed the boundaries of gritty realism and mind melting gore. \nAmy (Amy Chludzinski) and her friends break away from college for a weekend of camping in the peaceful New Jersey forest\, but they are not alone. Holding true to a bizarre promise to their dear\, departed mother\, a group of madmen besiege the vacationing quartet\, hellbent on torture and a feast of human flesh in Cannibal Campout.

SUMMARY:Robot Monster (in 3-D)
DESCRIPTION:It’s the end of the Hu-Man race as we know it! Alien visitor Ro-Man (regular gorilla impersonator George Barrows\, wearing a hairy ape suit and a deep-sea diving helmet)\, wipes out most of the Earth’s population with his “awesome calcinator death ray.” There are six survivors who have taken a neutralizing serum: a scientist\, a professor\, the professor’s wife\, and their three children. Ro-Man receives instructions from the leader of his planet\, “The Great One” (also played by Barrows)\, on how to kill the survivors\, but love gets in the way when Ro-Man falls for the professor’s comely eldest daughter. With echoes of King Kong\, Ro-Man’s lustful desire makes him want to be Hu-Man too\, and this will lead to his downfall. Made for a budget around $20\,000\, this cheapie camp classic just gets more ludicrous – and fun – with every sequence.  Part of the first wave of 3-D releases in early 1953\, Robot Monster’s excellent stereoscopic effects have been lovingly restored by 3-D Film Archive in honor of the movie’s 70th anniversary.

SUMMARY:Sometimes Aunt Martha Does Dreadful Things
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Pride Month in the freakiest way possible\, with this overlooked\, chapter of early queer cinema! \nDropping somewhere between PINK FLAMINGOS\, BLOOD FEAST\, and an episode of THE BRADY BUNCH on acid\, SOMETIMES AUNT MARTHA DOES DREADFUL THINGS is a histrionic psychodrama that could only have originated in the alternate dimension known as Florida. After robbing a bank in Baltimore\, Paul (aka Aunt Martha) and his partner Stanley hide out in the Miami suburbs. But it’s only a matter of time before Paul’s paranoia forces him to embark on a demented killing spree. Hardly progressive\, even for its era\, the film is a remarkable curio as it was a production destined for the regional drive-in movie circuit and marketed as a crime drama.  What must audiences have thought as they watched two men (one dressed as a woman\, to avoid being recognized in public) spend 90 minutes arguing like an “old married couple” and sharing a single twin bed when there was a whole house up for grabs!?! The American Genre Film Archive is thrilled to present one of the most unforgettable exploitation movies of all time—preserved from the only 35mm theatrical print in existence.

SUMMARY:Urotsukidōji: Legend of the Overfiend
DESCRIPTION:For a long time\, Japanese animation had a bad rep in America: “those freaky violent cartoons with the schoolgirls and the tentacle monsters.” UROTSUKIDŌJI: THE LEGEND OF OVERFIEND is the film that’s largely responsible for this reputation. Hideki Takayama’s gruesome adaptation of Toshio Maeda’s horror comic had a brief stint in U.S. theaters rocking a well-earned NC-17 rating. Grim-faced and grotesque\, it’s a hellish Freudian vision of torn bodies\, and bitter pessimism. The apocalyptic film picks up just before the prophesied rise of the demon-god The Overfiend\, whose re-birth would merge the worlds of men and demons. As time of prophecy draws closer\, demons flood into the dimension of men\, throwing the Earth into a chaotic storm of sex and violence. \n  \nDue to graphic content\, including sexual assault\, no one under 18 will be admitted.
