In other respects\, she sells herself short\, as when she and a male friend\, Benji\, kid each other that they are both undateable\, while deep in their hearts they wouldn’t mind dating each other. One thing that Frances does realize is that she has to work to survive in expensive New York\, since she is unable to rely on her parents for financial support. The question then becomes if Frances will be able to find balance for her life in New York. \nCo-written by Gerwig\, directed by 4-time Oscar-nominee Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale) and featuring brilliant supporting turns by Oscar®-nominee Adam Driver and Grace Gummer (Mr. Robot)\, this award-winning indie homage to French New Wave cinema is often cited as the film that broke Gerwig into the Hollywood mainstream.

A found footage appropriation from filmmaker Aristotelis Maragkos\, The Timekeepers of Eternity was meticulously crafted by creating a new edit of King’s TV mini-series The Langoliers\, printing each frame to paper\, then animating it all into a brand new creature feature. \nBut there’s a method to the madness. In The Langoliers\, Mr. Toomey (played by an unhinged Bronson Pinchot) obsessively tears paper to overcome the traumatic events—and literal monsters—of his childhood. In “Timekeepers”\, the tears and creases of photocopied paper transform into a living collage where the filmmaker and protagonist slowly merge with a common goal: to make sense of the paper nightmare. \nFreaky Fridays ticket prices include a free popcorn and soda or lemonade for all attendees! Eventually\, Pee-wee discovers that his bike is being used in a movie and tries to recover it.

The footage is slowed to allow a greater appreciation of the effect and character of the visual damage to the original materials\, which include everything from fragments of silent melodramas to ethnographic studies\, travelogues\, newsreel footage and wildlife documentaries. The material is edited to a modernist symphonic score by Michael Gordon; the aural dissonance complements the visual decay.

Mike’s peculiar friend Jerry (Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def) tries to sabotage a power station and nearly electrocutes himself\, getting magnetized in the process – and inadvertently erasing every tape in the store. \nMike discovers the disaster and is further pressed when Fletcher’s acquaintance Miss Falewicz (Mia Farrow) wants to rent Ghostbusters. To prevent her from reporting a problem to Fletcher\, Mike comes up with an idea: as Miss Falewicz has never seen the movie\, he proposes to recreate the film with cheap special effects\, using himself and Jerry as the actors and hoping to fool her. Soon their homemade versions of films develop a cult following. Will this new business save the store and the building?

The brainchild of Josh Frank\, an Austin\, Texas drive-in theater owner\, Silents Synced is a series of cinematic/music mashups that will leave even fans of the legendary Wizard of Oz/Dark Side of the Moon phenomenon shocked with delight. \nThe second film in this series couples R.E.M.’s 1990’s alt-rock masterpieces; Monster and New Adventures in Hi Fi\, with Buster Keaton’s 1924 slapstick comedy SHERLOCK JR. in which a film projectionist (Keaton) longs to be a detective and puts his meagre skills to work when he is framed by a rival for stealing his girlfriend’s father’s pocket watch. SHERLOCK JR. is preceded by the short film “The Balloonatic”\, with music by Amon Tobin. \nCreated exclusively for independent cinemas\, Enzian Theater is thrilled to bring this unique event to our Music Mondays series.

It seems harmless enough until\, one day\, someone finds the journal and exposes Harriet’s critical thoughts about her classmates. DESCRIPTION:50th Anniversary! 35mm Screening! \nBased upon a real-life story that happened in the early seventies in which the Chase Manhattan Bank in Flatbush\, Brooklyn\, was held siege by a bank robber determined to steal enough money for his transgender lover to undergo a sex change operation. On a hot summer afternoon\, the First Savings Bank of Brooklyn is held up by Sonny Wortzik (Academy Award-winner Al Pacino) and his lover Sal (John Cazale). Although the bank manager and female tellers agree not to interfere with the robbery\, Sonny finds that there’s actually nothing much to steal\, as most of the cash has been picked up for the day. Sonny then gets an unexpected phone call from Police Captain Eugene Moretti (2-time Academy Award nominee\, Charles Durning)\, who tells him the place is surrounded by the city’s entire police force.

Join us for an enriching experience where film enthusiasts and novices alike can explore classic films in a new light. Each session features a short presentation by esteemed professors from local colleges\, followed by collaborative discussions that bring fresh insights and foster a deeper appreciation for the art of filmmaking. Part of our Saturday Matinee Classics series\, the Enzian Film Club is your gateway to understanding and enjoying timeless cinematic masterpieces in a vibrant\, community-focused setting. \nFeaturing an Enzian Film Club discussion on framing techniques by Milt Moise of Rollins College! \nEdward Yang’s (Yi Yi\, Best Director: Cannes 2000) long-unavailable second feature is a mournful anatomy of a city caught between the past and the present. Made in collaboration with Yang’s fellow New Taiwan Cinema master Hou Hsiao-hsien (The Assassin\, Best Director: Cannes 2015)—who cowrote the screenplay\, helped finance the project\, and oversaw this restoration— Taipei Story chronicles the growing estrangement between a washed-up baseball player (Hou\, in a rare on-screen performance) working in his family’s textile business and his girlfriend (pop star Tsai Chin)\, who clings to the upward mobility of her career in property development. As the couple’s dreams of marriage and emigration begin to unravel\, Yang’s gaze illuminates the precariousness of domestic life and the desperation of Taiwan’s globalized modernity. \nTaipei Story was restored by Martin Scorsese’s The Film Foundation World Cinema Project at the Cineteca di Bologna/L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory\, in association with the Cinémathèque Royale de Belgique and Hou Hsiao-hsien. \nAbout the speaker: Milt Moise is a Visiting Professor at Rollins College where he teaches courses in film\, television\, and literature. His research examines bipolarity in American fiction and television\, Rastafari epistemology in the TV show Westworld\, and self-referentiality in Caribbean fiction.
