Left incomplete due to money problems and assembled for release in 2000\, Downtown 81\, which follows Basquiat trying to move a painting while hustling for a place to sleep\, became a window on a lost world of life on the margins and crazy creative ferment. Featuring John Lurie\, Fab Five Freddy\, and Debbie Harry\, with musical performances by DNA\, James White and the Blacks\, and Kid Creole and the Coconuts—and Manhattan in all its mangy glory.

So proceeds this eerie adaptation of the short story by H.P. Lovecraft\, one of horror’s most haunting\, here presented by the enigmatic South African filmmaker Richard Stanley. \nThe patriarch of this doomed brood is none other than Nicolas Cage\, continuing his recent renaissance as a midnight-movie staple with an increasingly unhinged “Rage Cage” performance. The rest of the ensemble\, which includes Joely Richardson and Tommy Chong\, play effective foils to Cage’s delirium\, but the real star of the show is the alien entity itself. This all-consuming\, dispassionate menace manifests itself in a series of grotesque\, body-horror\, and psychedelic spectacles\, worthy of its ineffable literary origins.

A series of events gets in the way of Riff’s plan and leads to a school evacuation by the police and an even more surprising ending!

Clever and fearless\, she outsmarts the “social guardians” and discovers punk\, ABBA and Iron Maiden. Yet when her uncle is senselessly executed and as bombs fall around Tehran in the Iran/Iraq war the daily fear that permeates life in Iran is palpable. As she gets older\, Marjane’s boldness causes her parents to worry over her continued safety. And so\, at age fourteen\, they make the difficult decision to send her to school in Austria. Vulnerable and alone in a strange land\, she endures the typical ordeals of a teenager. In addition\, Marjane has to combat being equated with the religious fundamentalism and extremism she fled her country to escape. Over time\, she gains acceptance\, and even experiences love.
