Four teens face heartbreak and celebrate in the rituals of an extraordinary senior year. \nIvete Lucas and Patrick Bresnan paint a detailed and astonishing portrait of Pahokee\, a rural village in the Everglades\, Florida. Very close-knit\, its inhabitants fight to face fragile financial situations and an uncertain future. Through a precise observational approach\, the film captures the daily life of this city restoring a rich palette of nuances. From sporting events to beauty contests at school\, filmmakers explore social and community rituals\, and how gender and identity are portrayed as new stories are created. Going well beyond the teaching of Wiseman\, which Lucas and Bresnan have perfectly integrated\, the film seems to bathe in the singular atmosphere of a song of Gil Scott Heron\, with lingering hints of rural blues tinged with urban echoes. A complex multi-faceted work that recalls both the raw social realism of the new American cinema and the neorealist style. Pahokee is the powerful portrait of a forgotten America\, absent from the current political discourse.

In this black comedy of middle-aged masculinity gone awry\, Academy Award-winner Jean Dujardin (The Artist) is George\, a recent divorcee who becomes obsessed with a vintage fringed deerskin jacket that begins to exert an uncanny hold on him. Ending up in a sleepy French alpine village\, with his heart broken and finances frozen\, he falls into the guise of an independent filmmaker and befriends a trusting bartender and aspiring film editor named Denise (Adèle Haenel\, Portrait of a Lady on Fire) who becomes his collaborator on a movie that will document a surprising new goal he sets for himself. A comic character study in which clothes truly make the man (insane)\, Deerskin is a madly entertaining showcase for both Dupieux’s startlingly original storytelling and Dujardin’s riveting performance. You’ve never seen anything like it!

Its conception began at a countercultural commune\, where an innovative group of artists\, adventurers\, and ecologists\, forged an alliance with a Texas oil scion to create Biosphere 2 as a pilot for Mars colonization. In 1991 their spectacular project became a media sensation\, when eight “biospherians” went to live hermetically sealed under the glass dome for two years. However\, shortly after their mission began\, the biospherians contended with ecological calamities—from food shortages to oxygen deprivation—and quickly the media’s fanfare turned to scorn. Cult accusations surfaced about the project’s management\, and Biosphere 2 was labeled science fiction\, instead of credible science. Director Matt Wolf trains his lens on this science-experiment-run-amok\, showcasing the team whose summer-of-love-spawned best intentions culminated in one of the most interesting disasters of the early 1990s.

There is a thread that runs through the city that can be heard from the drumming at Congo Square in the 1700’s through to today’s vibrant music scene. The music of this city is a powerful form of expression. It was a vehicle to communicate a desire for freedom\, express frustration of the injustices of segregation and Jim Crow laws\, a healing force that helped bring the city back from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina\, and is still a vital form of expression against ongoing cultural & racial biases. Executive Producer Terence Blanchard and Director Michael Murphy\, show how the culture of the city is reflected in its music\, how music impacts culture; and how even in the darkest of times\, music lifts and unites. \nFeaturing Sting\, Bonnie Raitt\, Robert Plant\, Keith Richards\, Harry Connick\, Jr.\, Wynton and Branford Marsalis\, Fats Domino\, Louis Armstrong\, Professor Longhair\, Allen Toussaint\, The Meters\, Dr. John\, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band\, Ivan Neville\, and many others!

At five feet tall and 97 years old\, Diana is larger than life: a foul-mouthed fireball far more feisty and energetic than her age and petite frame let on. Author of nine Mexican cookbooks\, she has spent over 60 years researching and documenting the regional cuisines of Mexico. Kennedy has lived ‘off-the-grid’ on an eight-acre ranch outside Zitácuaro\, Michoacán since the 1970’s: composting\, growing her own crops\, and using solar power to run her home. Aware of her own mortality\, she is working tirelessly to solidify the legacy of her life’s efforts\, with the hope of turning her home into a foundation for culinary education in Mexico.

We appreciate your support and hope to bring you more great indie films on-demand in the coming weeks! \nClick Here to Stream The Ghost of Peter Sellers  » \nCertified Fresh with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes! \nIn September 1973 Peter Sellers embarked on the production of a 17th Century pirate comedy in Cyprus for Columbia Pictures (Ghost in the Noonday Sun). Sellers lost confidence with the film as soon as it began and desperately tried to sabotage it\, firing the producers in the first week and then setting his sights on his friend the director\, Peter Medak. At its core lies the story of an unraveling production but also the tale of a young director firmly on a path to greatness. Medak had made 3 back-to-back successes; most notably ‘The Ruling Class’ in 1972 with Peter O’Toole (nominated for the Palm D’Or). This film changed his career forever. After 43 years\, the wounds have barely healed for Medak and this is his opportunity to tell the story and finally release the weight associated with its failure. The Ghost of Peter Sellers is a comic-tragic feature doc about what it takes to be a film director and survive your biggest disaster.
