Stokes (Billy Bob Thornton)\, a hard-drinking\, chain-smoking\, foul-mouthed sexaholic safe-cracker who targets a different department store every holiday season\, playing Santa while he cases the joint with his dwarf elf-partner Marcus (Tony Cox). \nWith comedic support from Bernie Mac\, Lauren Graham\, Cloris Leachman\, and John Ritter in his final film\, Thornton milks the lowbrow laughs with a slovenly lack of sentiment\, warming Bad Santa’s pickled heart just enough to please a chubby misfit (Brett Kelly\, hilariously deadpan) who may or may not be mentally challenged. As dry as an arid martini and blacker than morning-after coffee\, Bad Santa is an instant cure for yuletide schmaltz\, but if you think this appropriately R-rated comedy is suitable for kids\, your parenting skills are no better than Willie’s.

Dick\, Harrison Ford stars in this fascinating\, dark vision of the near future as a policeman who tracks engineered humans–a Blade Runner. In the year 2019\, the police department forces Rick Deckard (Ford) out of retirement to hunt four genetically engineered humans who have come to earth. Designed to do difficult\, hazardous work\, the manufactured humans are stronger\, faster and smarter than nonengineered humans. They feel no pain or remorse; they are almost indistinguishable from other humans … and they are killing people. Now Deckard must stop them before they kill again. \nAbout the speaker: Paul D. To further complicate matters\, without a shred of shame\, Elmer–Francine’s sleazy husband and owner of the local X-rated theatre–is leaving her for another woman; her disdainful daughter\, Lu-Lu\, is bearing the child of her delinquent boyfriend\, and her glue-sniffing son\, Dexter\, is becoming a vicious foot fetishist. Then\, out of the blue\, the suave blonde charmer\, Todd Tomorrow (‘60s matinee-idol Tab Hunter)\, enters the picture\, and\, for once in her life\, Francine feels loved. Is there a crock of gold at the end of the rainbow? \nJohn Waters first foray into something approximating mainstream cinema\, was heavily influenced by 1950’s Douglas Sirk melodramas and was the first film in Waters’ oeuvre to garner an “R” rating; his previous films all being rated “X”.  Returning Dreamlanders\, Divine\, Edith Massey\, Mink Stole\, Jean Hill and Mary Vivian Pearce round out the cast in this camp classic. \nAs a special holiday gift\, all audience members attending this screening will receive a scratch-and-sniff Odorama card!

It was edited and premiered in May 1967. \n“I wanted to make a summation of my nervous system\, religious inklings\, and aesthetic ideas. I was thinking of\, planning for a time monument in which the beauty and sadness of equivalence would be celebrated\, thinking of trying to make a definitive statement of pure Film space and time\, a balancing of “illusion” and “fact\,” all about seeing. The space starts at the camera’s (spectator’s) eye\, is in the air\, then is on the screen\, then is within the screen (the mind). The film is a continuous zoom which takes 45 minutes to go from its widest field to its smallest and final field. It was shot with a fixed camera from one end of an 80 foot loft\, shooting the other end\, a row of windows and the street …. The room (and the zoom) are interrupted by four human events including a death. The sound on these occasions is sync sound\, music and speech\, occurring simultaneously with an electronic sound\, a sine-wave …. It has to be assumed that his huge embezzlement of money from the dealership is about to be discovered by father-in-law. When all else falls through\, plans he set in motion earlier for two men to kidnap his wife for ransom to be paid by her wealthy father (who doesn’t seem to have the time of day for son-in-law). From the moment of the kidnapping\, things go wrong and what was supposed to be a non-violent affair turns bloody with more blood added by the minute. Jerry is upset at the bloodshed\, which turns loose a pregnant sheriff (Frances McDormand) from Brainerd\, MN who is tenacious in attempting to solve the three murders in her jurisdiction.

DESCRIPTION:Featuring in person Q&A with Writer/Producer Barry Sandler! \nIn the early 1980s\, British filmmaker Ken Russell (The Devils\, Tommy) travelled to America and placed his unorthodox imprint on Crimes of Passion—a crazed erotic thriller starring Kathleen Turner (Serial Mom\, Body Heat) and Anthony Perkins (Psycho). Fashion designer Joanna Crane (Turner) leads a double life. At night\, she is China Blue\, a prostitute who has attracted the attention of a psychopathic priest (Perkins). With its outrageous script by screenwriter Barry Sandler (Making Love) and sparkling score from Rick Wakeman of the band Yes\, Crimes of Passion is a movie that could only have been realized by the gonzo creativity of Ken Russell. \nInitially saddled with an “X” rating\, Sandler and Russell\, continued to make edits to the film to satisfy the distributor and the MPAA. The screening was followed by a panel discussion with Sandler. Scott Berg and Harry Hamlin on the film’s historical and cultural significance.

While Takeshi Miike’s original cut was 128 minutes long; the original US release was heavily edited to receive an R rating from the MPAA. Since its release\, the film has also been periodically banned in several countries\, including Norway\, Germany\, and Malaysia. This restoration features Takashi Miike’s full-length\, original 128 minute cut of the film. \nFreaky Fridays ticket prices include a free popcorn and soda or lemonade for all attendees!
