Join Enzian for an unforgettable series of films\, designed to generate conversations and foster community through the lens of great storytelling. \nVampyros Lesbos: \nIncludes a special introduction by Nicole Richter\, PhD\, author of “Bisexual Erasure in ‘Lesbian Vampire’ Film Theory.” In partnership with Dyke Nite Orlando. \nIn a career that spanned 57 years and over 200 films\, the Vatican once called Spanish exploitation maverick Jesus ‘Jess” Franco “the most dangerous director in the world”.  This\, his retelling of the “Dracula’s Guest” story has gained a following over the decades via its erotic flights of surreal imagery\, psychedelic soundtrack\, and iconic performance by Franco muse Soledad Miranda as the Countess and has been often cited (and programmed along with Jean Rollin) as a controversial but still recognizable foundational work of early queer cinema. \nEwa Strömberg (She Killed in Ecstasy) stars as Linda\, a woman with recurring dreams about a woman seducing her. When Linda’s sent to an island off the coast of Istanbul\, she meets the very Countess of those dreams. After quickly falling under the woman’s spell\, Linda finds she’s not the only one with an obsession for the Countess. With a thin plot to roll with\, Franco creates dazzling scenes of arty softcore bliss infused with psycho-sexedelic tunes. \nFreaky Fridays ticket prices include a free popcorn and soda or lemonade for all attendees! Working from an Oscar®-nominated script by Hanif Kureishi\, who was soon to be an internationally renowned writer\, Frears tells an uncommon love story that takes place between a young South London Pakistani man (Gordon Warnecke)\, who decides to open an upscale laundromat to make his family proud\, and his childhood friend\, a street punk (3-time Academy® Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis\, in his breakthrough role) who volunteers to help make his dream a reality. This culture-clash comedy is also a subversive work of social realism that dares to address racism\, homophobia\, and sociopolitical marginalization in Margaret Thatcher’s England. \nAbout Barry Sandler: \nBarry Sandler (Crimes of Passion\, The Other Side of Midnight) is a pioneering screenwriter best known for Making Love (1982)\, the first major studio film to depict LGBTQIA+ characters positively. The film was recently honored with a 40th anniversary celebration by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 2002\, The Advocate named him one of America’s most influential gay artists. Since 2003\, he has taught screenwriting and film history at the University of Central Florida. Sandler’s work has also earned numerous honors\, including the GLAAD Media Award and the Outfest Gay Pioneer Award.

Access for All at OMA is a monthly free day dedicated to the community. La CinOMAthéque will be a series of 6 bimonthly free screenings of experimental\, avant-garde\, art films in the Truist auditorium at OMA on Access for All day. \nEach screening will be introduced by a UCF film professor and include a talkback with OMA Chief Curator Coralie Claeysen-Gleyzon and Enzian Programming Manager Tim Anderson. \n  \nEvergreen: \nJune 19\, 2025 at 6:00 PM \nFor this special Juneteenth event\, we will be entering the Orlando Museum of Art to view and discuss Dawoud Bey’s 3-channel video with sound installation. \nDawoud Bey’s Evergreen depicts haunting images captured at the Evergreen Plantation of Wallace\, Louisiana. Installed across three video channels\, the work scans the grounds of the most intact plantation complex still standing in the United States. The work captures swaths of trees and the remnants of living quarters of the historically enslaved Black people. An ominous soundtrack provided by American vocalist and composer Imani Uzuri narrates: \n“Come by here.”\n“She got a right to the tree of her life.”\n“Someone’s praying.”\n“Just like a dream.” \nBey reflects upon his time visiting Evergreen Plantation\, which was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic: “Returning to Louisiana recently only reinforced my belief that we forget history. . . and that calling it to remembrance — as I do in my work — keeps us alert and responsive to the presence of those horrific pieces of a past\, which\, left untended\, can return to haunt us yet again.” Void of human subjects\, Evergreen is a multisensory meditation on the historical traumas that linger in our nation.

DESCRIPTION:New Restoration! \nIn the mid-‘70s\, filmmaker James Szalapski documented the then-nascent music movement that would become known as “outlaw country.” Inspired\, in part\, by newly-long-haired Willie Nelson’s embrace of hippie attitudes and audiences\, a younger generation of artists including Townes Van Zandt\, David Allan Coe\, Steve Earle\, Charlie Daniels and Guy Clark popularized and developed the outlaw sound. It borrowed from rock\, folk and bluegrass\, with an edge that was missing from mainstream Nashville country. \nMusical highlights include Clark’s brilliant “Desperados Waiting for a Train” and Van Zandt’s emotional “Pancho & Lefty”.  The hard living—and hard partying—lifestyles of outlaw country’s figureheads are played out on screen as we visit Van Zandt’s Austin trailer\, see Coe play in Tennessee State Prison\, join the gang in Nashville’s notorious Wig Wam Tavern and witness a liquor-fueled Christmas at Clark’s house. No wonder the film’s original tagline read: “The best music and the best whiskey come from the same part of the country.” \nThis newly restored edition includes rarely captured performances of the aforementioned musicians as they perfected this then-new style and helped change the course of country music history.
