SUMMARY:The Night of the Hunter (4k Restoration)
DESCRIPTION:70th Anniversary! 4k Restoration! \nThe Night of the Hunter—incredibly\, the only film the great actor Charles Laughton ever directed—is truly a stand-alone masterwork. A horror movie with qualities of a Grimm fairy tale\, it stars a sublimely sinister Robert Mitchum as a traveling preacher named Harry Powell (he of the tattooed knuckles)\, whose nefarious motives for marrying a fragile widow\, played by Shelley Winters\, are uncovered by her terrified young children. Graced by images of eerie beauty and a sneaky sense of humor\, this ethereal\, expressionistic American classic—also featuring the contributions of silent film legend Lillian Gish and writer James Agee—is cinema’s most eccentric rendering of the battle between good and evil. \nA box office failure on release\, it’s now hailed as one of the most daring American films of the 20th century—an extremely unique vision that has permeated through pop culture until this very day.

SUMMARY:Train Dreams
DESCRIPTION:Featuring a pre-recorded Q+A with director Clint Bentley! \nBased on the beloved novella by Denis Johnson\, Train Dreams is the moving portrait of Robert Grainier (Golden Globe-nominee Joel Edgerton)\, whose life unfolds during an era of unprecedented change in early 20th century America. Orphaned at a young age\, Robert grows into adulthood among the towering forests of the Pacific Northwest\, where he helps expand the nation’s railroad empire alongside men as unforgettable as the landscapes they inhabit. After a tender courtship\, he marries Gladys (Academy Award-nominee Felicity Jones) and they build a home together\, though his work often takes him far from her and their young daughter.  When his life takes an unexpected turn\, Robert finds beauty\, brutality and newfound meaning for the forests and trees he has felled. \nAn ode to a vanishing way of life\, an ever-evolving world\, and to the extraordinary possibilities that exist within even the most simple of existences\, Train Dreams captures a time and place that are now long gone\, and the people who built a bridge to a future they could only dream of. Directed by Academy Award-nominee Clint Bentley with a screenplay by Bentley and Academy Award-nominee Greg Kwedar\, the writing team behind Sing Sing\, the film also stars Academy Award-nominees William H. Macy and Kerry Condon.

SUMMARY:Three Days of the Condor
DESCRIPTION:50th Anniversary! Robert Redford Tribute Film! \nFrom 2-time Academy Award winner Sydney Pollack comes the taut\, paranoid thriller that helped define the New American Cinema movement of the 1960’s and ‘70s. \nRobert Redford stars as Joe Turner\, a mild-mannered CIA analyst whose quiet research job explodes into chaos when his entire office is massacred. Forced into hiding\, Turner must outwit shadowy forces inside his own agency\, unravel a conspiracy tied to U.S. covert operations\, and decide whom he can trust—including a wary civilian\, played by Faye Dunaway. \nA critical touchstone\, the film captured the deepening mistrust of government institutions in the wake of Vietnam and Watergate\, becoming a template for the modern political thriller. At its heart\, the film is a showcase for Robert Redford\, landing at #6 on the highest grossing films of 1975 (a year that included Jaws\, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Dog Day Afternoon) and cementing his place as one of Hollywood’s most bankable leading men.

DESCRIPTION:2025 marks the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth. In honor of this literary giant\, Enzian Theater and the Winter Park Library will celebrate with “A Year with Jane Austen”. Scheduled throughout the year\, The Winter Park Library will read each of Austen’s six novels as well as screen various adaptations of the accompanying films and miniseries at both the Library and at Enzian Theater. \nBride & Prejudice: \nBollywood meets Hollywood…and it’s a perfect match. \nA clash of cultures in the spirit of My Big Fat Greek Wedding\, this modern musical retelling of Jane Austen’s classic Pride And Prejudice is a hilariously entertaining tale of one girl’s unlikely search for love! SUMMARY:Attack of the Beast Creatures
DESCRIPTION:40th Anniversary! \nCelebrating 40-years of Enzian Theater\, each month we will highlight a classic film from 1985 to illustrate the lasting impact of the films of the era and the legacy of Central Florida’s only non-profit arthouse movie theater.  Thank you for being part of our 4-decade contribution to arts culture in Orlando. \nIn the wild\, weird world of 1980s horror\, few films scream “shot on weekends in the woods of Connecticut” quite like Attack of the Beast Creatures. This micro-budget gem follows a group of 1920s shipwreck survivors who wash up on an island crawling with tiny\, Zuni fetish doll monsters with a serious taste for human flesh. \nShot in 1983 but not released until 1985\, the film is fueled by outrageous gore\, a sublime synthesizer score\, and jaw-dropping puppet effects.  This is what happens when a mid-century creature feature collides with DIY surrealism\, and everyone wins. \nOriginally known as Hell Island\, Attack of the Beast Creatures returns to the big screen for the first time in decades\, featuring a restoration from the original 16mm camera negative that celebrates a relic of regional horror filmmaking\, and delivers undeniable proof that with enough fake blood and puppet monsters\, every movie can be a great movie.

SUMMARY:Ernest Saves Christmas
DESCRIPTION:Screening as part of the Enzian Holiday Series! \n35mm Screening! \nThe second big-screen outing for Jim Varney’s (Toy Story 1 & 2) unforgettable character\, Ernest P. Worrell\, finds the well-meaning but accident-prone Ernest working as a cab driver in Orlando when he crosses paths with none other than Santa Claus\, who’s in search of his successor. What follows is a mix of slapstick chaos\, earnest heart\, and Varney’s signature physical comedy as Ernest does his best to save the day in his own unconventional way. \nA cult holiday favorite\, Ernest Saves Christmas helped cement Ernest as one of the most recognizable comic creations of the late 1980s. Originally born from a series of local TV ads\, Ernest evolved into a full-fledged pop culture phenomenon\, leading a string of feature films that showcased Varney’s unique blend of goofball humor and surprising sincerity. \nSo come out early\, grab a cocktail\, and get ready to get your “knowhutimean” on!

SUMMARY:Daisies (4k Restoration)
DESCRIPTION:4K Restoration! \nDive into the magic of cinema with the Enzian Film Club! Join us for an enriching experience where film enthusiasts and novices alike can explore classic films in a new light. Each session features a short presentation by esteemed professors from local colleges\, followed by collaborative discussions that bring fresh insights and foster a deeper appreciation for the art of filmmaking. Part of our Saturday Matinee Classics series\, the Enzian Film Club is your gateway to understanding and enjoying timeless cinematic masterpieces in a vibrant\, community-focused setting. \nFeaturing an Enzian Film Club discussion on “Experimental Cinema” with Nicole Richter\, PhD from Rollins College! \nIf the entire world is bad\, why shouldn’t we be? Adopting this insolent attitude as their guiding philosophy\, a pair of hedonistic young women (Ivana Karbanová and Jitka Cerhová)\, both named Marie\, embark on a gleefully debauched odyssey of gluttony\, giddy destruction\, and antipatriarchal resistance\, in which nothing is safe from their nihilistic pursuit of pleasure. But what happens when the fun is over? \nMatching her anarchic message with an equally radical aesthetic\, director Věra Chytilová\, with the close collaboration of cinematographer Jaroslav Kučera\, unleashes an optical storm of fluctuating film stocks\, kaleidoscopic montages\, cartoonish stopmotion cutouts\, and surreal costumes designed by Ester Krumbachová\, who also cowrote the script. The result is Daisies\, the most defiant provocation of the Czechoslovak New Wave\, an exuberant call to rebellion and widely considered one of the great works of feminist cinema.

SUMMARY:Un Chien Andalou (with Live Score)
DESCRIPTION:All free La CinOMAthéque screenings will take place in the Truist Auditorium at the Orlando Museum of Art. \nACCESS FOR ALL AT OMA presents: \nLa CinOMAthéque: A collaboration between OMA and Enzian\, with generous support provided by the Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program. \nThe Orlando Museum of Art is thrilled to announce the launch of La CinOMAthéque in partnership with the Enzian Theater\, as part of its “Access for All at OMA\,” an all-new program offering FREE admission to the museum! \nAccess for All at OMA is a monthly free day dedicated to the community. La CinOMAthéque will be a series of 6 bimonthly free screenings of experimental\, avant-garde\, art films in the Truist auditorium at OMA on Access for All day. \nEach screening will be introduced by a UCF film professor and include a talkback with OMA Chief Curator Coralie Claeysen-Gleyzon and Enzian Programming Manager Tim Anderson. \n  \nUn Chien Andalou: \n Featuring a live Score by Tinnitus Rex! \nA barrage of striking and irrational images\, designed to provoke\, are presented in a disjointed chronology\, jumping from the initial “once upon a time” to “eight years later” without the events or characters changing\, evoking a dream logic as its narrative flow. \nLuis Buñuel’s legendary first film\, Un Chien Andalou written with Salvador Dalí\, created a scandal at its premiere and its startling eye-slicing opening sequence has continued to shock viewers ever since. Despite Buñuel and Dalí’s energetic rejections of any rational meaning in the film\, Un Chien Andalou is an exploration of desire and the obstacles in the path of instinctual passion\, equally indebted to Surrealism and Freud and represents the first film in what is now considered the golden age of the avant-garde.

When the local children begin mysteriously disappearing\, young Pietari and his father Rauno\, a reindeer hunter by trade\, capture the mythological being and attempt to sell Santa to the misguided leader of the multinational corporation sponsoring the dig. SUMMARY:Batman Returns
DESCRIPTION:35mm Screening! Screening as part of the Enzian Holiday Series! \nTim Burton’s darkly stylish sequel blends comic book spectacle with gothic fairytale\, cementing Burton’s singular vision of Gotham City. The film reunited Michael Keaton as the brooding Bruce Wayne/Batman\, while introducing two of the franchise’s most memorable villains: Danny DeVito as Oswald Cobblepot\, a grotesque yet tragic incarnation of The Penguin\, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Selina Kyle/Catwoman\, whose feline alter ego became one of the most iconic antiheroines in film history. \nAmid Gotham’s snowy\, neon-lit Christmas\, Batman faces chaos as The Penguin’s circus gang terrorizes the city and corrupt tycoon Max Shreck (Christopher Walken) schemes to drain its energy. After Shreck’s secretary Selina Kyle is reborn as Catwoman\, the trios intertwined destinies collide in a tragic showdown of betrayal\, desire\, and destruction. \nUpon release\, Batman Returns was notable for its strikingly dark tone and twisted holiday imagery—where Christmas cheer is subverted into a nightmare of consumerism\, corruption\, and fractured identities. Though controversial for its violence and mature themes (leading to a backlash from parents’ groups and toy companies)\, the film has since earned a reputation as a bold\, gothic outlier in the history of superhero movies.
