In no time Charley discovers a genuine love for the animals and grows particularly attached to a failing racehorse named Lean on Pete. But when he discovers that Pete has reached the end of his racing days and is due to be disposed of\, Charley steals the horse and winds up on an adventure he never expected. Director Andrew Haigh (45 Years) delivers a modern-day western that is more than just the story of a boy and his horse. Lean on Pete is a dust-stained window into the serious nature of below-the-poverty-line wage earners and homelessness in America. With incredible turns from indie veterans Buscemi and Sevigny\, and a brilliant and heartrending performance from Boardwalk Empire’s Charlie Plummer\, the film is an enduring character study and a reminder that everyone and everything deserves love.
