Selena

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, this special screening—in honor of the 30th anniversary of Selena’s passing—will be presented with Spanish subtitles.

Golden Globe-nominee Jennifer Lopez stars as Selena, in a breakout performance as the beloved singer, tracing her journey from a childhood band formed by her father Abraham (Edward James Olmos), through her groundbreaking success in the male-dominated Tejano music scene, to her dream of crossing over into the English-language pop market. This the heartfelt biographical drama captures key moments in Selena’s life—her family’s unwavering support, her passionate romance with guitarist Chris Pérez (Jon Seda), and the devastating betrayal that led to her untimely death at just 23.

Born in Lake Jackson, Texas in 1971, Selena has been heralded as the “Queen of Tejano Music”. Known for her charisma, powerhouse voice, and deep connection with fans, she was a trailblazer who opened doors for future generations of Latinx performers. Her influence extended far beyond music, making her a beloved figure in both Latin American and mainstream American culture. This month in honor of her legacy, we hope that this film continues to inspire new audiences with its message of perseverance and the enduring power of music.
