Before there was Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street, there was Shari Lewis and her lovable cast of puppets, including Hush Puppy, Charlie Horse, and the most beloved puppet of all time, Lamb Chop. In 1960, while still in her early 20s, NBC gave Shari her first national network show, replacing The Howdy Doody Show. The legendary ventriloquist quickly became a pioneer in television who took her responsibility quite seriously to create a safe and non-judgmental space for kids. Winner of 13 Emmy Awards and a Peabody, Shari Lewis was also a talented singer, dancer and magician who wrote over 60 children’s books. This warm and nostalgic film shares her life story and celebrates her lasting contribution to American children’s entertainment, enriching the lives of multiple generations of kids.
